As thousands travelled to Brighton Pride this weekend to see a certain pop superstar, demand for accommodation skyrocketed in the city.

A record-breaking 57,000 people watched Britney Spears perform her Piece of Me set in Preston Park on Saturday evening, rounding off a day full of LGBTQ celebrations.

That influx had a direct effect on local residents renting out their homes, according to Airbnb’s latest data.

They reported that their hosts welcomed more than 5,000 guests across the weekend, as people spilled into the seaside city for the Pride parade and festivities.

Airbnb have estimated that local residents have earned a combined total of £50,000 due to the influx of demand, which is based on the average daily rate of £110 per room per night.

Most of the guests arriving into Brighton were from London, with Dublin, Bristol, Manchester and Portsmouth all following.

While Britney certainly helped give the city a surge in popularity over Pride weekend, Brighton was already ranked the fourth most popular destination on Airbnb in the UK this summer.

With accommodation and Airbnb Experiences available to book, Brits have been busy taking advantage of the hotter-than-usual weather we have been experiencing.

As for Britney, she took time to thank all of her British fans for an incredible weekend.

“I’ve always loved the UK and this night just made me love it even more,” she tweeted.
