You Might Get A Holiday This Year Yet - Here’s What We’ll Be Wearing

A summer wardrobe is a necessity whether you take off the tarmac or not. Let your imagination run wild with our checklist of holiday at home essentials from LUISAVIAROMA.

Britain continues to be on lockdown, even though Boris has announced a (rather confusing) relaxing of the rules. For those of us predominantly still stuck indoors, you may be questioning whether you’ll be able to catch a break and jet off to far-flung shores this year. And to that we answer: we have no idea. Sorry. And seemingly, neither does the government. But as the EU look to reopen all internal borders by end of June and UK airlines announcing a return to the skies from July, things are at least looking promising.

Only time will tell if you’ll be ready for the runway this summer, but even if we’re not that won’t stop us taking a holiday in some form. And whatever form that time off takes, it will demand a summer wardrobe to go with it. Because, frankly, we need to stop wearing the same t-shirt and joggers we’ve been working from home in and revive our style to its former glory, stat.

Now we won’t pretend that lockdown life hasn’t shifted our attitude towards style and shopping. Having had no-one to show off to for some time now, we’ve become less focused on fads and trends, and more on practical, well-crafted pieces that won’t date. Well, and sweatpants. But now summer’s here, we still want our clothes to reflect that. And for that, we’re bringing in the big guns at LUISAVIAROMA whose sun-soaked new arrivals are giving our closets the kick up the backside it needs for the sunshine days ahead. So, without further ado, discover which designer summer essentials will be making it into our stellar line-up for the coming months. Whether we’re destined to wear them here at home, or away.

1. The Short Sleeve Shirt

If you’re someone who lumps shirts in the category of fussy workwear, then you need to have a word with this season's casual short sleeve offering. Effortless and versatile, a short sleeve shirt - particularly of the camp collar or bowling shirt variety - is the definition of easy-breezy holiday wear. Printed or plain, wear loose with a vest and shorts by day, and smarten for sundowners with linen trousers. And don’t worry if you never make it past check in - it'll work wonders with chino shorts and tinnies in your local park too.

2. The Sunglasses

Whether you’re sat out on a terrace in Northern Italy or hanging off your balcony in South London, there’s no reason to be squinting in this day and age. Now we’re allowed out again, sunglasses are a worthy investment home or abroad - we’re big fans of Persol for a contemporary take on a classic.

3. The Multi-Wear Shorts

While an afternoon by the pool or a jaunt to the beach might feel like a lightyear away right now, we’re applying our new principles of practicality by investing in shorts that work as well out of water as they do in. A tailored-fit pair will look as good with a crisp cotton shirt and loafers as they will paired with a Pina Colada and sun-lounger.

4. The Printed T-Shirt

Summer just isn’t summer without a hint of print and, in our humble opinion, a T-shirt is just about the easiest way to dip your toe in the trend. From tie-dye a la Isabel Marant to vibrant graphics from Lifted Anchors and Loewe, give the block colour grey and black you’ve been living in a rest for the foreseeable.

5. The Slip On Sliders

Thanks to our work-from-home routine, we’ve forgotten what wearing a real shoe feels like. To continue perpetuating the toe-freeing trend further, we’ll be investing in some smart yet hardy leather examples from Bradar, alongside eternally ‘in’ sports styles from Adidas Originals.
