The creators of Netflix’s Wednesday have opened up about a potential Wednesday and Enid romance in future seasons.
Back in November, the popular streamer finally released the highly anticipated fantasy teen drama based on the beloved Addams Family character.
The show, which is executive produced by Tim Burton, follows Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) as she enrols in the mysterious Nevermore Academy – which was once attended by her parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Adams (Luis Guzmán).
As she tries to navigate her new surroundings, the 16-year-old soon finds herself with psychic abilities and at the centre of a local murder investigation.
Since its debut, the show has earned critical acclaim from TV enthusiasts for its clever storylines and the Scream 5 actor’s fantastic performance as the intelligent and emotionless Wednesday.
In addition to the aforementioned praises, LGBTQ+ viewers have also shipped Ortega’s character with her optimistic werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).
Over the last few weeks, fans have called on the show’s writers to make the pairing, aka “Wenclair,” canon in later seasons.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wednesday creators Al Gough and Miles Millar gave further insight into Wednesday and Enid’s beloved dynamic and the future of their relationship.
“For us, this show also is really about this female friendship with Wednesday and Enid really being at the centre of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying,” Gough told the news outlet.

When asked about fans shipping Wednesday and Enid as a romantic pairing, Millar replied: “As Al said, this idea of sisterhood is key to the show.
“We’re not gonna discount anything, and, obviously, sometimes characters reveal themselves, which is the fun thing we love about television, that its an organic journey.”
While the two creators refrained from confirming a future “Wenclair” romance, they did admit that they are “open to anything.”
“We have a roadmap, and we’d like to have routes along that map that take you in unexpected directions. So we’re open to everything. We wanna explore that friendship in every way,” Millar explained.
“But we’re not gonna be, this is where you sometimes get misdirected by fans and things like that, so it’s just being really open to see how those characters develop and that friendship. As Al said, that friendship is key to our sort of vision of the show.”
Gough and Millar’s interview comes a few weeks after Ortega and Myers seemingly supported the idea of “Wenclair.”
During the show’s recent red carpet premiere, Ortega and Myers shared their thoughts on the pairing while speaking to Pride.
“In a perfect world, we would have been a thing,” the X star told the news outlet.
When Myers was informed about Ortega’s statement in a separate interview, she replied: “Hey, I always say, ‘And they were roommates.'”
All eight episodes of Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix.
