BBC has finally released the first sneak peek at Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney in the upcoming Doctor Who specials.

Back in May, it was revealed that the beloved talent would be joining the Doctor Who universe as a new Rose.

“This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself, Russell [T Davies], has not only made my year, it’s made my life,” Finney said in a statement following her casting.

“I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get ready.”

It’s A Sin creator and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies echoed similar sentiments in an additional statement.

“Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder – how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set,” he teased.

“We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse.”

Over the last few months, fans have been eager to learn more about Finney’s new Rose and where she falls in the forthcoming 2023 Doctor Who specials.

Fortunately on 25 December, the BBC finally treated fans to a first-look at the Heartstopper star’s debut with a brief trailer.

At the start of the teaser, fan favourite companion Donna Noble reveals that she feels as if something is missing.

“Sometimes I feel like something is missing. Like I had something lovely, and it’s gone,” she says.

During her brief monologue, a shot of Finney splashes across the scene –which features her carrying a box into an unidentified house.

As the teaser progresses, David Tennant’s 14th Doctor is shown reuniting with Donna before it cuts to the special’s villainous character – which Neil Patrick Harris plays.

“I don’t believe in destiny, but if destiny exists, then it is heading for Donna Noble. If she ever remembers me, she will die,” Tennant’s character says.

Towards the end of the trailer, the Doctor, Donna and Finney’s Rose narrowly avoid monsters, explosions and death before it cuts to Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor shouting: “Someone tell me what the hell is going on here?”

Shortly after the trailer aired, fans took to social media to express their excitement over Finney’s Doctor Who debut.

One fan wrote: “Still totally convinced that Yasmin Finney is playing Donna’s daughter and she chose the name Rose after growing up hearing her great-grandad Wilf telling her stories of a wonderful man in a box and the adventures he went on and his lost love.”

Another fan tweeted: “Just living for the fact that a trans character is on a show I love, in a role that is close to the people the story revolves around. Just there, existing, because we are a part of life.

“Not an identity to make a remark or compare with, but simply a part of it all.”
