The romantic (and sexual) chemistry between Alex and Prince Henry is undeniable in this new Red, White & Royal Blue clip.

The upcoming Prime Video rom-com, based on Casey McQuiston’s iconic bestseller of the same name, follows the story of Alex – the son of America’s first-ever female president (played by the Uma Thurman!) – and his complicated relationship with his royal counterpart across the pond.

In a UK exclusive, a new clip from the highly-anticipated film shows Alex and Henry, respectively played by Taylor Zahkar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, as they agree to keep their secret romance “casual”.

“I just can’t afford for you to fall in love with me,” Henry explains to Alex, who playfully hits back at the Brit: “Oh get over yourself, your majesty!”

A flirtatious back-and-forth about Henry’s title (“it’s your Royal Highness!”) results in a passionate –  we repeat, passionate – kiss.

The official synopsis for Red, White & Royal Blue reads: “Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue, until a disastrous—and very public—altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time.

“Going into damage-control mode, their families and handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.”

Red, White & Royal Blue’s cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.

The film has been Rated-R due to “language, some sexual content, and partial nudity.” As the two central characters – in the words of one Twitter user – “fuck every time they see each other in the book”, fans celebrated the news on social media.

Red, White & Royal Blue premieres 11 August on Prime Video.
