Pucker up for Pride…
Heathrow are celebrating Pride in London this weekend with a rainbow flag covered in love – quite literally.
The unique design sees the iconic flag created entirely by 6,000 international passengers’ kisses.
To show their support for the LGBTQ community, passengers and staff were asked to place their own individual kiss onto the crowd-sourced artwork.
The creation started on 1 July, and was positioned in departures giving travellers the opportunity to donate their kiss for the piece.
The rainbow flag is now flying proudly outside Terminal 2 and will remain on display until the end of July.
“We’ve been getting into the spirit of Pride right across the airport to show our support for London and the rest of the UK, where diversity and equality are so strongly celebrated and equally valued across our employees and passengers alike,” said Carol Hui, Chief of Staff at Heathrow Airport.
“Many of the LGBT+ community travel into London, to celebrate this incredible festival so we wanted to give them a warm welcome by, quite literally, flying the flag for Pride.”
What’s more, the Heathrow Proud Network – an internal staff group that works together to make a difference to the experience of LGBTQ colleagues and to promote a level playing field of opportunity – will be marching in the parade on Saturday.
Ahead of Pride in London this weekend, Heathrow has reported an increase of 5% more people travelling through the airport compared to the same period next year.
We’re willing to bet more than a few are international travellers ready to enjoy one of the biggest LGBTQ celebrations in the world.
