Christina Aguilera will receive an award for her allyship to the LGBTQ community.
The six-time Grammy Award-winning artist has been a longtime supporter of queer people, having raised funds to help the fight against HIV/AIDS, and advocating for marriage equality and against anti-LGBT bullying.
She will receive the Ally for Equality Award at the 2019 HRC Los Angeles Dinner, which takes place on Saturday 30 March.
“Christina Aguilera is a living legend and a true LGBTQ icon who consistently uses her global superstar platform to share a message of hope and inspiration to those who have been marginalised simply because of who they are,” said HRC President Chad Griffin.
“Through her powerful music and her tireless efforts for positive change, she is making a real difference in the lives of countless people while bringing greater visibility to the LGBTQ community.
“HRC is proud to honour Christina Aguilera with the HRC Ally for Equality Award at the 2019 HRC Los Angeles Dinner.”
Christina’s 2002 single Beautiful is widely regarded as one of the greatest LGBTQ anthems of all time, while the music video featured a same-sex couple kissing and a transgender individual at a time when representation was scarce.
Yeardley Smith, an Emmy Award-winning actor and producer, will also be honoured at the dinner, where she will receive the HRC National Leadership Award.
