A new featurette for the upcoming Elton John biopic shows lead star Taron Edgerton in the recording studio.

In the sneak-peek for the highly-anticipated comedy drama, the British actor – who’s best known for his role in the Kingsman franchise – is seen laying down vocals for Elton’s 70’s pop classic, Tiny Dancer.

In the short clip, music producer Giles Martin (the son of Beatles producer George Martin) admits: “Elton said I don’t think I have heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.”

Dexter Fletcher, the film’s director, also says: “Taron is actually singing in the film and he’s so convincing. His voice is incredible.”

Based on the life of the legendary musician, Rocketman will focus on Elton’s early years in the music industry, his rise at the Royal Academy of Music, and his struggles with fame and drug abuse.

Egerton previously said of the film: “Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun.”

Producer Matthew Vaughn, who worked alongside Egerton on the Kingsman films, told The Hollywood Reporter: “This film is going to make people’s jaws hit the ground. Elton just said, ‘Tell it all. Go as R-rated as you need to’.

“And we do just that, with his blessing. The flaws and the genius are all there.”

Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard.
