Fans of Sam Smith have been left confused after the singer was missing on the list of nominations for the BRIT Awards 2018.

The star’s second studio album The Thrill Of It All was the third best-selling album in the UK last year, with lead single Too Good At Goodbyes hitting No.1 on both sides of the Atlantic.

Despite missing out on a single nomination, Sam congratulated all of the nominees and confirmed that he will still be performing at the ceremony at the O2 Arena on 21 February.

Dua Lipa leads the list of nominees this year, with five mentions in total.

The singer-songwriter has scored nominations in the British Female, British Breakthrough, British Single, British Artist Video of the Year and the Mastercard British Album of the Year categories.

Ed Sheeran is just behind with four nods in the categories for British Male Solo Artist, British Single, Mastercard British Album of the Year and British Artist Video of the Year.

Elsewhere, Little Mix, Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit, Loyle Carner, Jonas Blue and Liam Payne are all up for two awards each.

As for the international nominees, Pink, Taylor Swift, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar are all in the running.

“This year’s nominations, as well as the incredible performances on our launch show tonight, are representative of an exciting, genre spanning and vibrant year in British music with a strong mix of established acts alongside new and emerging artists who are set to become the big names of the future,” said Jason Iley, BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK and Ireland.
