Ryan Murphy’s new show The Politician is coming to Netflix later this year.

The mastermind behind TV sensations like American Horror Story, Glee and Pose has announced that his first original show for Netflix, a comedy series called The Politician, will debut on the streaming service on 27 September.

It will star Ben Platt as Payton Hobart, “a wealthy student from California who knows he’s going to be President one day, but first he has to navigate the treacherous political waters of his high school to become student body president”.

The series will also star Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange(!), Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones and Benjamin Barrett.

It was previously reported that Barbra Streisand was expected to star in the show, although that sadly seems to have fallen through.

Ryan has signed a massive deal to produce exclusive original shows for Netflix, including the recently announced Nurse Ratched.

The show, a prequel to classic movie One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, will star American Horror Story veteran Sarah Paulson as the infamous nurse and heartless title character who uses her authority to torture her patients.

The series has received a two-season order, and will also star Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Cynthia Nixon, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, and Corey Stoll.
