Prime Video has released another deleted scene from Red, White & Royal Blue and fans (including us) are “sobbing”.

The three-minute scene, which has been titled ‘Prince Henry and Alex’s Fireside Chat’, sees Nicholas Galitzine’s fan-favourite monarch deliver a tender speech about the metaphorical “suit of armour” around his heart.

“When you told me on our first night together that you couldn’t let anyone fall in love with you, did you really mean that?” asks Alex (Taylor Zakhar-Perez), referencing their first night of passion in Paris.

Henry responds: “Once upon a time, there was a young prince who was born in a castle, and there had never been a prince quite like him. He was born with his heart on the outside of his body, whereas the other princes and noble children could withstand the slings and arrows of childhood, this prince felt everything acutely.

“Everything seemed to touch and threaten his unprotected heart. He didn’t know that he was different – not at first. His family did, and they grew fearful that the people in the kingdom would see who he really was and turn against him.”

“His grandfather, the king, sent the prince a suit of armour and told him that if he always wore it, nothing would ever happen to him. And so, for many many years, the prince believed that he was safe and the prize he paid for his safety was his freedom.”

Henry reveals that Alex, a “devastatingly young peasant boy who was from this far away land and said the most ghastly things to him” is what made him feel “truly alive” for the first time in his life. (See? Sobbing.)

“And because of this handsome peasant boy, the prince’s armour began to fall away, piece by piece, until that all that was left was the piece of armour protecting his heart,” he continues.

“Peasant boy pulled and pulled at this last piece of armour but the prince held it firmly in place. With every tug, the boy made a space between the prince’s armour and his heart and in that space, the prince’s heart could be free, once again.”

The scene received rave reviews from fans, who lauded Galitzine’s performance while simultaneously criticising Prime Video for omitting the scene from the final edit.

“Nicholas absolutely brought this scene to life. Better than anything I could have imagined while reading the book,” said one fan, while another wrote: “I cannot believe they planned to include this in the movie but then CONSCIOUSLY DECIDED TO CUT IT.”

‘Prince Henry and Alex’s Fireside Chat’ marks the second deleted scene from Red, White & Royal Blue after Alex and Henry’s Cornetto treat in Kensington Palace.

The film was a massive success for Prime Video upon release, becoming the number one movie worldwide on the streamer, as well as its third most successful rom-com ever.

Based on Casey McQuiston’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the film follows the romance between Alex (Zakhar Perez), the son of America’s first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Galitzine), a British prince.

The cast also includes Uma Thurman, Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.

Red, White & Royal Blue received praise for its faithfulness to the source material and the chemistry between Zakhar Perez and Galitzine.

In an interview with GAY TIMES, director Matthew Lopez said he’s open to returning for a sequel “if it’s successful and people want more”.

Additionally, Lopez revealed that “everyone in the hair and makeup department” for the film pitched their ideas for a sequel, from “Red, White & Royal Wedding” to “Red, White & Royal Baby”.

Red, White & Royal Blue is now streaming on Prime Video.
