A new ‘main pop girl’ is born.

MTV’s annual Video Music Awards have a long history of delivering some of the most iconic performances in music, from Britney’s snake, to Madonna’s faux lesbian kiss, to Beyonce’s pregnancy reveal, and Gaga faking her own death live on stage.

Now we have a new performance to add to that list.

At the 2019 VMAs on Monday (26 August) night, former Fifth Harmony member Normani delivered her first performance of killer new single Motivation, and any doubt about her star power fizzled away the second she appeared inside a basketball hoop.

It featured everything we’ve come to expect from iconic VMA performances – fierce outfits, pyrotechnics, incredible staging, a troupe of stunning backing dancers, and of course some flawless choreography complete with backflips and splits.

Oh, and that epic dance breakdown? We have a feeling we’ll be talking about this one for years to come.
