Netflix

Hot on the heels of the box office success of Love, Simon, Netflix are preparing to release their own coming out romantic comedy this summer.

Alex Strangelove will follow high school senior Alex Truelove who, like all young men his age, is starting to explore the idea of losing his virginity.

When we meet the character, he is seemingly happily loved up with his girlfriend, but an unexpected encounter helps him come to terms with his true self.

“Things get complicated when he meets a handsome and charming gay kid from the other side of town who unwittingly sends him on a roller-coaster journey of sexual identity,” an official synopsis reads.

Alex Truelove will be played by Daniel Doheny, who has previously had roles in Supernatural and HumanTown.

The film has been produced by Ben Stiller and directed by Craig Johnson, who describes the film as “a fun, funny, and flirty film located down the street from Pretty in Pink, around the corner from Superbad, and right next door to new neighbor Love, Simon.”

We’ve yet to see the first trailer for the film, but it already sounds like it’s going to be a good one.

Madeline Weinstein, Antonio Marziale, Joanna Adler, Isabella Amara, and William Ragsdale also star in the teen movie.

Alex Strangelove will be available to stream on Netflix from 8 June.

Before that, however, it will receive its official world premiere at the 2018 San Francisco International Film Festival later this week.
