The BBC has finally released the first sneak peek of Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who debut.

On 23 October, Jodie Whittaker ended her expansive run as the 13th Doctor during the series’ latest special, The Power of the Doctor.

While the episode was full of action and emotional Thasmin moments, viewers were left shocked after the 13th Doctor regenerated into David Tennant’s version of the titular character.

The Fright Night actor had previously portrayed the 10th Doctor from 2005 to 2010.

Shortly after the episode aired, the BBC released a teaser trailer for Doctor Who’s new 2023 specials – which featured Tennant as the 14th Doctor, the return of Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and the first appearance of Gatwa as the 15th time lord.

In the brief clip, Tenant can be heard saying, “I don’t know who I am anymore”, while shots of explosions, a scared Donna and a devious Neil Patrick Harris flash across the screen.

The teaser then ends with Gatwa making his colourful debut, shouting: “Somebody tell me what the hell is going on here.”

According to Deadline, Tennant and Tate will be reprising their respective roles in three Doctor Who specials before Gatwa officially takes over as the iconic character.

“If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way,” said returning showrunner Russell T. Davies.

“The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”

Following the release of the electric teaser, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement over the forthcoming episodes.

One fan wrote: “No bc I acc screamed David Tenant OMG.”

Another viewer tweeted: “Ncuti Gatwa and David Tennant in the same trailer, we love to see it.”

Back in May, the Sex Education star was announced as the new Time Lord for Doctor Who’s 14th season.

“There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited, and of course a little bit scared,” Gatwa shared in a statement.

“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.”
