The Sex Lives of College Girls will return for a third season.

HBO Max announced the renewal ahead of the release of the final two episodes of season two, which drops 15 December in the U.S.

Hailing from co-creators Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, The Sex Lives of College Girls follows four freshman roommates at New England’s prestigious Essex College.

The series stars Pauline Chalamet as Kimberly, Amrit Kaur as Bela, Reneé Rapp as Leighton and Alyah Channelle Scott as Whitney.

Additional cast members include Gavin Leatherwood as Nico, Christopher Meyer as Canaan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Lila, Renika Williams as Willow, Lauren Spencer as Jocelyn, Midori Francis as Alicia, Mekki Leeper as Eric and Mitchell Slaggert as Jackson.

The first two seasons of The Sex Lives of College Girls received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for the trajectory of Rapp’s breakout queer character Leighton – with the series receiving a nomination for Outstanding New TV Series at the 33rd GLAAD Media Awards.

Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation at HBO Max, said in a statement: “Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble continue to brilliantly capture the college experience in the most entertaining and relatable way.

“This series is the perfect balance of comedy, sex, curiosity, and chaos, and we can’t wait to see what the next season brings.”

According to HBO Max, the second season has been the top performing original series on the platform.

The first season is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK, with all 10 episodes of season two dropping on 19 January 2023.

The official synopsis for season two reads: “The new season picks up with the students returning after their fall break, tackling the challenges thrown their way at the end of season one, and facing their next semester filled with new faces, parties and predicaments.

“After returning from Thanksgiving break, the girls learn of their new social status as ‘narcs’ – and all the frat parties they are now banned from attending.

“Meanwhile, Kimberly strategises ways to make up for her lost scholarship with unexpected help from Leighton, Whitney grapples with how to fill her time in the soccer off season, and Bela attempts to form an all-female comedy magazine.”
