David Walliams spoke about appearing on the show in an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

Sadly, earlier this year the BBC said that they were going to be using the traditional mixed-sex pairings for the current series of Strictly Come Dancing. However, that hasn’t stopped the pro routines from featuring same-sex dancers with AJ and Gorka, Giovanni and Graziano, as well as a troupe of professional dancers and Graziano and Johannes all having routines together.

However, should the BBC opt for same-sex couples next year – fingers crossed – there’s one celebrity who they might be able to sign up. Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show, comedian and actor David Walliams said that he dance with a male partner, and revealed which one he has in mind.

“My mum would like me to do Strictly,” he said. “I don’t think I ever have been asked to do it. I would like to do it because there are two reasons. One is, you get to lose weight, it’s a brilliant way to lose weight.”

“And the second thing is you often get close with the professional dancer, so I want Anton du Beke.”

Walliams then added: “That is my dream. It would be fun. I like the dancing. The day will come won’t it, when we will all be on there.”

And it looks like he may be in luck, as Anton has said that he would dance with a man on the show. Speaking to Bang Showbiz, during the TV Choice Awards in September, the professional dancer admitted that he only had one reservation over same-sex couples, and that was how it would be judged.

“We’ll have to wait and see if it’s ever a thing. My only thing about it is how they would judge it,” he said. “It would be interesting to see how they’re going to judge it.”

He then continued, saying: “If you’ve got a same-sex couple, you’ve got two girls dancing together or two fellas dancing together, it’s not the same as a boy and girl dancing together.

“So from a prospective of judging it they’d have to find a criteria way of doing it. Once they’ve done that I think it could potentially happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

He then added: “If they give me a fella I’d give it a go, why not?”
