Britney Spears has apologised to her fans after announcing plans to postpone her upcoming Las Vegas residency.

The American superstar was scheduled to start her new Britney:Domination show at the Park MGM resort next month, but will now go on an “indefinite work hiatus” to focus on her father’s health.

Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, became seriously ill two months ago and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.

According to an official statement from Britney’s team, his colon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately admitted into surgery.

He spent the next four weeks in hospital and is now at home, expected to make a full recovery.

However, during this period Britney has decided to take some time off to care for her recovering father.

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,” Britney said.

“Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”

Refunds for those who have already bought tickets are available at the point of purchase.
