That Sabrina and Riverdale crossover? It’s already begun.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuted on Netflix over the weekend, just in time for Halloween, and it’s already receiving acclaim from critics and fans alike – we’re a little bit obsessed with it ourselves.

The reboot of the classic 90s TV series reimagines the origin story of the titular character in a much darker light, and is a far cry from Melissa Joan Hart’s iconic version, instead following the 2014 comic book series of the same name.

Given that the towns of Sabrina (Greendale) and Riverdale (Riverdale, duh) are basically neighbours, and the characters have already met each other in the Archie Comics universe, viewers have been left speculating over a potential crossover for the two shows.

Despite being described as “two separate entities” by producer Jon Goldwater earlier this year, episode seven of Sabrina appeared to confirm the crossover potential when Miss Wardwell had a pizza delivered by none other than Riverdale’s Ben Button.

Ben has been making sporadic appearances in Riverdale since the show began: Back in season one he worked at the Twilight Drive-In, and in season two he was seen kissing Miss Grundy in Greendale(!) before she was murdered.

Most recently, we saw him playing Griffins and Gargoyles, the ominous new craze gripping the students of Riverdale High School in season three. Oh, and he died when he jumped out of a hospital window. Make of that what you will.

Fortunately, executive producer of both Riverdale and Sabrina, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, is on hand to offer a semblance of an explanation.

“It suggests a very deep, deep mythology where time and space bends,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I love that kid. I’m sad that he keeps turning up and horrible things keep happening to him.”

Does this mean that Ben survive his fall from the hospital? Or could it be something darker…

“It seemed like that was pretty final, but yet there he is in Greendale,” he continued. “But in Greendale, everyone pops up – the dead don’t stay dead long in Greendale.”

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is available to stream on Netflix now. New episodes of Riverdale are added to Netflix UK on Thursdays.
