Is Donna dead?

The second trailer for Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again has landed, and it’s amazing, gag-worthy etc – however, fans (and us here at Gay Times) are left wondering, is Meryl Streep’s character dead?

The Academy Award winner doesn’t have any new scenes in the trailer – even though she was confirmed to return – and her character only appears via flashback, with Lily James playing a young Donna (Streep’s character).

In the trailer, viewers are transported back in time as a pregnant Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) reflects on her mother’s journey on the Greek island of Kalokairi, so the internet are assuming the worst…

Watch the trailer below.

Whaddya think? Is Donna dead, or are they throwing us off? Probably the latter, but fans are in uproar…

Alongside Meryl, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper all reprise their roles from the first film, with Cher joining the cast as Donna’s mother.

Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth will return to play Sophie’s three possible dads: Sam, Bill and Harry.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, who produced the original film. Craymer also created and produced the stage musical of which the film is based on.

It will be released officially on 20 July, 2018 – ten years and two days after Mamma Mia! opened.

Don’t worry, there’s even going to be something new musically as the sequel will feature ABBA songs that were NOT included in the 2008 movie.
