Russell Tovey cast as gay DC superhero in The CW’s upcoming crossover event

The British actor will play Raymond Terrill – aka – The Ray.

Russell Tovey is set to join DC’s Arrowverse as openly gay superhero The Ray, in The CW’s upcoming crossover event – as well as in his very own standalone animated series.

The crossover will feature characters from all of The CW’s superhero shows, such as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Tovey’s character – Raymond “Ray” Terrill – is an ambitious reporter who gains his light-based powers after being exposed to a genetic light bomb.

He then decides to use his powers to report injustice, stop the baddies and save the day – y’know, the usual.

The four-part crossover will air 27 and 28 November on The CW.

Its official description is as follows: “With all of the heroes in town to celebrate Barry and Iris’s wedding, villains from Earth-X crash the festivities with a deadly agenda.”

The Ray’s animated spin-off, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, will debut later this year on The CW’s online streaming platform, CW Seed.
