Walking Dead star Daniel Newman comes out as gay in emotional video

The American actor said that it was “just time” to come out as a gay man.

Daniel Newman – who plays Daniel in The Walking Dead – explained his decision to come out publicly during an inspiring video on YouTube.

He explained that he was helping as a volunteer at a homeless youth shelter when a girl thanked him for the LGBT+ support “like she didn’t deserve it”.

Daniel added that she mistook him for being straight and when he corrected her, she challenged him on why he hasn’t made that public to help change lives.

“It hit me like a gut punch,” Daniel said. “It felt like someone knocked the wind out from me.

“I realised how important it is in this day and age to be visible.”

He added: “When you’re doing incredible things and hiding who you are, you are hurting hundreds of millions of people.”

As well as a part in The Walking Dead, Daniel has also had parts in The Vampire Diaries, Homeland and Sex and the City.

What’s more, he’s also been a Calvin Klein model, and is a recording artist.
