Will a Disney prince ever come out as gay? This star seems to think so…

We’ve wished upon stars and dreamed of the day an openly LGBT+ Disney prince would come our way.

Although we’re sadly still waiting for that day, it seems it might not be quite so far in the future as we thought. Well, that’s if Beauty and the Beast stars Audra McDonald has anything to do with it.

The actress, who’s a record-breaking Tony Award-winning star, expressed her belief that we could see a Disney prince come out.

Speaking exclusively to Gay Times, Audra said: “A Disney prince coming out? Oh my goodness, what a question!”

Adding shortly after: “Who am I to predict anything, but I imagine that’s somewhere in the future.

“Disney’s smart, sensitive and I bet they will.”

Her Beauty and the Beast co-star Stanley Tucci adding his thoughts: “There are many people, unfortunately, in the world that are in denial that those relationships exist, or don’t believe they should exist, so I think it’s very important that our films reflect the reality of life.”

Audra joins Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Sir Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

Earlier this month, Disney legend Alan Menken spoke to Gay Times about the latest Beauty and the Beast movie, letting slip his dream casting for another live-action reimagining – fairytale classic The Little Mermaid.

“I’ve wanted Harvey,” he giggles when we ask who he’d like to see play delicious baddie Ursula – a role usually played by a female (and conceived for drag legend Divine). “I’ve wanted Harvey Fierstein to play Ursula. I would kill for that!”

Shocked at such a revelation and with us clearly begging for more, Alan reassures us that if it can happen, it will.

“We wanted that, and we would love it in a flash!” he exclaims.
