Review: Hedonism by Cakes Da Killa

Like GT cover star Mykki Blanco, Cakes Da Killa has been one of LGBT+ hip-hop’s leading lights for half a decade. And like Blanco, he’s produced a debut album that justifies a fairly lengthy wait.

Over drill-like beats and club-ready throbs, Cakes delivers his clever verses with breathless intensity, bragging about “getting thirst traps all up on my iPhone”, and challenging anyone to match his fire power: “Name another bitch who can make it hot like this!” You’ll be able to think of a couple – Mykki for one – but you wouldn’t dare say it to his face.
