We guarantee this will make you cry.

Just days after Sprite’s beautiful new Pride-themed advert went viral and got us feeling teary-eyed, Renault Clio have released an advert featuring a queer love story that’s basically a short film, and it’s got everyone emotional.

The advert celebrates 30 years of the Renault Clio, but also the progress that has been made for LGBTQ equality over the last three decades.

It begins as two young girls meet and become friends, and as they get older that friendship blossoms into romance. However, one woman’s father doesn’t accept her sexuality, and the other ends up getting married to a man while secretly longing for her former lover.

Fortunately, as the years pass by, the two women realise they can no longer deny their feelings for one another and reunite, eventually starting their own family and, in a touching final moment, are accepted by the formerly-homophobic father.

Viewers have praised the advert, calling it “spectacular” and thanking the company for featuring queer people in their adverts.

“Thank you for showing such beautiful lesbian representation on our TV screens! We need more LGBT+ representation. Thank you,” wrote one viewer.

“This video made me cry, mostly because I know many of my friends who have lived a sexuality that I know they aren’t. Glad they found each other in the end. We all need that,” another added.

Adam Wood, marketing director of Renault UK, explained: “We wanted to humanise and celebrate, not just thirty years of progress of the Renault Clio, but also the progress made within culture, society and life in that time.”
