A first trailer for Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is here.

The sequel is set several years after the events of 2014’s Maleficent, which gave Sleeping Beauty a dark fantasy makeover and was told from the point of view of the eponymous antagonist, reimagining the King to be the real villain in the classic story.

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie will reprise her role, alongside Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville, and will be joined by stars such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The film will follow Maleficent as she teams up with Aurora to protect the moors and the magical creatures within them, and will “explore the complex relationship” between the horned fairy and the soon-to-be Queen.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil was originally slated for a 2020 release, but was recently given an official release date of 18 October, 2019, joining a heavy line-up of live-action Disney films including The Lion King, Aladdin, and the previously released Dumbo.
