“I feel like a goddess. I feel like I’m my own gender.”

Valentina has proudly come as non-binary in an interview with Out Magazine.

The Drag Race star, who’s currently competing on the fourth season of All Stars, told the publication: “I identify as non-binary. I don’t completely feel like a man, I don’t completely feel like a woman. I feel like a goddess. I feel like I’m my own gender.”

They then revealed how her gender identity will influence her upcoming portrayal of Angel in the live production of Rent.

“I get to bring that aspect to my Angel character and really have an idea of like, ‘Why is she so happy and so confident in her armor, in her drag?’” they said.

“I do take the responsibility of being a gay non-binary drag queen person taking on a really important iconic role like Angel and I hope [audiences] tune in for it.”

Valentina will star alongside Brandon Victor Dixon, Vanessa Hudgens, Tinashe, Kiersey Clemons, Jordan Fisher, Brennin Hunt and Mario in the production, which will air 27 January on Fox.

Rent, which first premiered on Broadway in 1996, tells the story of struggling young artists in New York City in the days of Bohemian Alphabet City, during the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Upon release, Rent received universal acclaim and has made a profound impact on popular culture. It currently stands as the 11th longest running Broadway show, and has spawned national tours, foreign productions and a motion picture.
