Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera’s joint young adult novel What If It’s Us hasn’t even hit the shelves yet, but plans are already underway for a big screen adaptation.
The story follows 17-year-old Arthur who is spending the summer in New York City interning at the law firm his mother works at.
After bumping into a cute boy by the name of Ben in a post office, the pair don’t even get the chance to exchange contact details before they are pulled apart by a flash mob performance.
It’s then and there that the quest for them to find each other again in the Big Apple begins, with Becky writing the chapters from Arthur’s perspective, and Adam from Ben’s.
Becky Albertalli is the author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, which was adapted into this year’s gay rom-com Love, Simon.
Adam, meanwhile, is the author of best-selling titles They Both Die At The End, More Happy Than Not, and History Is All You Left Me.

What If It’s Us will hit stores on 9 October in the US and on 18 October in the UK, but the rights for a big screen adaptation have been snapped up by Anonymous Content.
They’ve hired 13 Reasons Why creator Brian Yorkey to adapt the book, with Joy Gorman Wettels to produce, reports Variety.
“What If It’s Us is a sparkling romantic comedy, a love letter to New York City in the summer, and a moving, deeply honest look at what it’s like to be a young person today,” Yorkey said in a statement.
“It’s all the things I love, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of bringing it to the screen.”
Becky and Adam will also serve as producers on the new film.
“The universe couldn’t have presented a more perfect dream team than Brian, Joy, and Kat. We immediately fell in love with their vision for this film, and we can’t wait to watch them bring What If It’s Us to life,” they said in a joint statement.
In recent years Anonymous Content have produced huge titles such as True Detective, Spotlight and The Revenant.
