Ryan Murphy will donate all profits from his new TV series Pose to LGBTQ charities.
The mastermind behind hit shows including American Horror Story and Glee announced his decision on social media this week, after it was also revealed that Pose would feature the largest cast of trans actors in series regular roles in history.
“I am donating 100 percent of profits from my new FX show POSE towards trans and LGBTQ charitable organisations,” he wrote.
“These groups do amazing work and need our support. Every day for the next 14 days I will highlight a group I’m supporting, and encourage you to do the same!”

According to Deadline, Pose will be set in 1986 and “examines the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York City: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world”.
Ball culture refers to an underground LGBTQ subculture in the United States, especially prominent in New York City in the 80s, where queer people compete for trophies and prizes at events known as balls.
The scene was brought to the world’s attention in iconic 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning, and is regularly drawn upon for inspiration by reality behemoth RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Pose will receive its US premiere on Sunday 3 June, and while there’s currently no premiere date set for the UK, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll get it fairly soon after.

Besides looking like an essential piece of viewing, the series is also making history by featuring the largest amount of trans actors in series regular roles of any scripted TV series in history.
They are MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, and Angelica Ross, and they’ll all be playing transgender characters. The announcement of their roles followed a six-month nationwide search by casting director Alexa Fogel.
The series will also feature the largest recurring LGBTQ cast ever for a scripted US TV series.
“Along with being a dance musical and an affirming look at American life in the 1980s, I’m so proud that Pose and FX have made history right from the beginning by featuring the most trans series regular actor ever in an American television production,” Murphy said.
“Additionally, the first season of Pose will feature 50-plus LGBTQ characters – a record in American television history.”
Joining the aforementioned actors are Evan Peters, Kate Mara, James Van Der Beek, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Dyllon Burnside, and Billy Porter, who plays the master of ceremonies.
Behind the scenes, co-creator Steven Canals has been writing scripts for the series alongside Transparent writer and producer Our Lady J and trans activist and author Janet Mock.
Pose premieres 3 June on FX in the US.
