Golden is the Aussie star’s first number one album since Aphrodite in 2010.
The record shifted 48,000 combined sales, eclipsing the first-week totals of her last three releases, The Abbey Road Sessions, Kiss Me Once and Kylie Christmas.
Kylie told the Official Charts: “I don’t know where to start… Thank you to everybody who has been involved in getting Golden to Number 1. I am so overwhelmed, happy, proud, emotional and very, very thankful and grateful. Much love and many, many, many thanks.”
Golden is Kylie’s 14th studio album, and is a pop record heavily influenced by country and dance music. It’s one of the star’s most personal records to date, and has been praised for her honest songwriting.
Its first two singles, Dancing and Stop Me From Falling, received critical acclaim. This week, Dancing became Kylie’s 51st top 40 hit in the UK, charting at 38.
If you’ve been craving tickets to one of Kylie’s legendary live shows, you’ll be pleased to know that she’s taking her new album on the road later this year with an extensive UK and Ireland tour.
Kicking off on 18 September, the tour will include stops in Newcastle, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Cardiff, London, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Dublin, before wrapping up in Belfast on 8 October.
