Sam Smith was “so emotional” after receiving a giant rainbow tribute over the weekend.

The Grammy-winning star began his world tour in Sheffield last week, where he performed all of his biggest hits including I’m Not The Only One, Stay With Me and Like I Can, as well as new tracks like HIM and Too Good At Goodbyes.

Sam declared himself to be a “proud gay man” to the arena of adoring fans, but during a show in Glasgow over the weekend, it seemed it was the venue showing off Pride, as the SSE HYDRO lit up in rainbow colours to honour his appearance there.

“I can’t believe the SS[E] HYDRO did this!! Has made me so emotional,” he wrote on Twitter, alongside a series of Pride flag emoji.

Sam added in a now-deleted Instagram post that the tribute left him “in tears” and that it “blew [his] mind”.

Fans also shared their own photos of the arena, and sent messages of encouragement to the singer on social media. One wrote: “You deserve the world & more!! Glasgow loves you… please never leave.”
