It was confirmed earlier this year that Dawn will join Jennifer Saunders and return to our television screens this festive season with a parody of The Handmaid’s Tale and trashy reality TV.

“There’s some Handmaid’s Tale in there. We had fun with some of the costumes,” Dawn told The Mirror – the first official confirmation of the pair marking their French and Saunders 30th anniversary.

The Christmas broadcast will also feature their take on the ever-growing rise of boozy reality shows filmed in holiday resorts and the success of reality television.

“I am shocked by how they behave,” Dawn tells. “You reckon they’d want to meet someone who would love, cherish and respect them. But instead they go out and get utterly hammered and are shagging in a bush and coming out and going ‘Yes!’, like men.

Jennifer throwing in: “Taking the piss out of people is a young person’s thing. It can start to look a bit tragic and bitter.”

The anniversary special is expected to air on BBC One on Christmas Day. The BBC confirmed that more details would be revealed “in due course”.
