Bishop who ardently opposes LGBT+ rights to speak at UKIP conference

He backs “gay cure” therapy, and has said that same-sex parenting leads to “delinquency”.

The Bishop of Rochester Michael Nazir-Ali is to speak at UKIP’s party conference in Torquay this weekend. And, would you believe it, he harbours homophobic views.

Speaking in 2009, just before London Pride, he caused outrage by saying: “We welcome homosexuals, but we want them to repent and be changed.”

He also defended “gay cure” therapy, saying: “We believe that people who seek, freely, to resolve unwanted same-sex attractions hold the moral right to receive professional assistance.

“Whether motivated by Christian conscience or other values, clients, not practitioners, have the prerogative to choose the yardstick by which to define themselves.”

And when asked about his views on same-sex parenting he didn’t hold back, saying: “This is social experimentation. It’s one thing for a child not to have a mother or father through tragedy but it is another to plan children to come into the world without a father.”

“The results of ‘father-hunger’ can be seen in [lack of] educational achievement and on our streets, where it contributes to delinquency.”

Making things worse, he even said that Sir Elton John’s child’s welfare was at risk, and that he would be affected “psychologically.”

Other highlights at the conference will include the election of UKIP’s new leader, and openly gay candidate Peter Whittle is one of the favourites.

And what of Nigel Farage? He’ll be heading to America this week to campaign for Senate candidate Roy Moore, who said that having gay sex is the “same” as having sex with a cow.
