A gay teacher catfished by students on Grindr has been forced to leave his school

A 51-year-old French teacher in North Carolina has been forced to leave his school after two students convinced him to send compromising pictures of himself over hook-up app Grindr.

David Laughinghouse thought he was talking to a 35-year-old man on the app, but was instead being catfished by 16-year-old high school pupils Brian Anderson and Brittney Luckenbaugh.

After receiving sensitive images of their teacher, the students proceeded to share them with classmates.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office stated that the pair did “knowingly disclose an image of another person… without the affirmative consent of the depicted person.”

They have been released on $5,000 bail and will now appear in District Court on 15 June.

Laughinghouse was suspended with pay during the investigation, but has now been reinstated.

However, instead of returning to his normal role at the high school, he has been transferred to a media lab at a nearby school and forced to teach remotely.

Parents and teachers have criticised the decision and started a petition to get Laughinghouse back teaching at Swansboro High School.

“He’s still being punished after becoming a victim,” states a Change.org petition.

“A source close to Mr. L says that he is devastated by this decision. This ’compromise’ effectively isolates him from his support system.”

The petition has been signed by over 4,400 people so far.

“David did not deserve this and now those ignorant, mean-spirited students have not only hurt him but will live with this the rest of their lives,” said Kay Comuntzis Getsinger, a teacher at Swansboro Middle.
