Do gay men find guys with beards more attractive?

We finally have an answer…

For a few years now it’s been predicted that the beard is over. Kaput. Finished.

Designer stubble and your more hipster-tailored beard were about to be replaced with smooth jawlines and a more boy-ish look.

But a new study might just stop that switch in its tracks.

Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia have found that what might be considered scruffy stubble to some, is actually a bit of a turn on for many more.

The team split 8,520 women into three groups, and pulled together images of men with clean shaven faces, light stubble, heavy stubble and a full-on thick beard.

Each group was asked a different question about the sex appeal of the man they were shown.

The first group simply rated the men with the beardless-to-bearded faces for overall sexual attractiveness.

The second group were also shown the photos and, but instead asked who seemed more attractive for a one-night stand or short-term fling.

The third group, as you might have already guessed, were then to judge on the prospect of a more long-term romance or relationship.

The conclusion?

The women voted men with heavy stubble as the overall sexiest type of man, whereas the guys with light stubble were chosen for the one-night stand.

But when it came to something more concrete, the more facial hair you have, the more you look like marriage material.

That’s all good and well, but what about what other men think about men with beards we hear you ask?

The research team asked 1,577 men and women from Brazil and the Czech Republic (a bit random, we know) about facial hair, and the gay men had a stronger preference for guys with facial hair compared with the ladies.

“Homosexual men preferred hairier stimuli than heterosexual women, supporting past findings that homosexual men have strong preferences for masculine traits,” Dr. Barnaby Dixson stated.

Basically, they found that gay men typically like other men with beards similar to their own.

So there you go. Maybe that five-day-old stubble is more attractive than you might give it credit for.
