Paul Burrell will discuss the 1981 incident now that he has publicly come out as gay.

The former royal staff member – who was known as Princess Diana’s “rock” – was present at a gay orgy on the Royal Yacht Britannia, according to his agent, which saw members of the navy dismissed for their actions.

Homosexuality in the armed forces was illegal in 1981, and a trial was held in secret, causing claims of a cover-up.

However, Paul escaped any consequences as he was the Queen’s right-hand man at the time, and was told to change his lifestyle and find himself a wife, it has been claimed.

“He (Paul) wants to talk about the scandal that happened on the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is where members of the navy were dismissed for being caught up in a gay orgy,” his agent Adam Muddle told The Sun.

“Paul was there. But he wasn’t arrested or subjected to any sort of criminal charges, because he was the Queen’s right hand man at that point.

“It’s believed the Queen pulled him to one side and told him how disappointed she was and told him he had to get back on the right track and find himself a nice girl and become married.”

Paul did just that, and in 1983 he married his ex-wife Maria.

However, after 32 years of marriage, Paul and Maria divorced in 2016, shortly before he came out as gay.

Paul will now marry lawyer Graham Cooper later this year, after a decade-long romance.

However, the former royal butler has more claims about life at Buckingham Palace.

“He’ll talk about life in Buckingham Palace, entering as an 18-year-old with no sexual experience whatsoever he soon learned that there was a gay predatory culture run by older gay men,” Muddle said.
