The next season of American Horror Story will be about the 2016 US presidential election.

Director Ryan Murphy has explored many controversial themes in his hit anthology series – asylums, witchcraft, freak shows, and even reality TV – but now he’s taking on what could be his most terrifying subject so far.

In a departure from last year’s season of American Horror Story, the theme of which was kept secret until the very last minute, Ryan has revealed the focus of season seven months before it’s even started filming.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live, Ryan said: “I don’t have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through, so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”

When asked by host Andy Cohen if there would be a character based on Donald Trump, he replied: “Maybe.”

We can’t wait to see how this one turns out…
