The latest contender for Donald Trump’s inner circle is another anti-LGBT figure.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who the US president-elect is reportedly vetting for the role of Department of Homeland Security, has previously referred to transgender people as ‘freaks’.
Speaking about an article by anti-trans activist Walt Heyer on his TheBlaze Radio Network show earlier this year, Clarke said: “Folks, more evidence that transgender persons suffer from mental disorders more than physiological disorders.
“Too often in this assault on the First Amendment, and this very totalitarian attitude from the left that any freakish lifestyle is now considered part of the norm, and they’re shoving it down our throats.”
He added: “The left is on a political crusade with this, looking to push any lifestyle as mainstream because they seek their vote. I think this is cruel, I think this is disgusting.”
Clarke went on to claim that the Pulse LGBT nightclub massacre in Orlando, which left 49 people dead and many more injured, was used by the left as a “distraction” from Hillary Clinton’s shortcomings.
He said: “Folks, we took the cheese. It refers to a mouse trap, with a nice big chunk of cheese on it, and the moist crawls up to it. You know what’s going to happen if that mouse touches the cheese.
“Yet that’s precisely what we did following the Orlando terror massacre. We allowed the left to use gun control as a shiny object to distract us from Mrs Bill Clinton’s flaws.
“We were pounding her over the email scandal, hammering her over Benghazi, and what the left do is exploit these situations. Something came up, a shiny object, and they threw out this thing about gun control.
“Folks, they know damn well that [the shooting] had nothing to do with gun control. But they know we love to talk about it, and they know that they can bury us in this thing that isn’t going to change anything.
“They’d rather have us talking about gun control, than about their flawed, corrupt candidate Mrs Bill Clinton… and it got us off of the momentum of the Clinton email scandal. They did it again. We went for the cheese.”
Listen to his comments below – they begin around the 21:50 mark.
Elsewhere, Clarke has previously claimed that “there is no police brutality in America” and, according to the Huffington Post, four people including a baby have died since April in the Milwaukee jail that he’s charged with running.
