Gay man ‘verbally assaulted’ in front of 4-year-old son by store manager

A gay man has accused a store manager of calling him a “faggot” in front of his son.

James Shawlin says he purchased $3,000 of stone from a Floor & Decor store in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, but when he found out they had a manufacturing defect he attempted to return them to the store.

He told 9 News: “The stones were broken and they were basically gluing them back together and putting them in the box and selling them.”

James says he received permission from a store employee to go through boxes of stone to compare, but as he did this another employee confronted him and brought over the manager, who was “not in a good mood”.

He continued: “I was a little firm with him, and I just told him, ‘Hey, you know, my husband and I spend a lot of money here, we’ve been using you guys for ten years, we have $3,000 worth of stone’.

“And [the manager] goes, ‘Oh, that explains it now. The faggot that voted for Hillary’.”

James says another customer overheard the exchange and expressed his support for Donald Trump, before following him out of the store and asking: “What are these faggots going to do to this child?”

Floor & Decor have been inundated with comments on social media asking them to take action – the company have since explained that the employee who made the remarks “is no longer employed” by them.

James added: “I’m 44, I’ve been out for a while, I grew up in rural Wisconsin, I’ve heard it all. But when you have a child that’s so young that doesn’t understand, it’s pretty traumatising.

“It’s not about me getting somebody in trouble, I just want to make people aware what’s going on in our community.”
