Matthew Shepard’s mum “terrified” of a Donald Trump presidency

Judy Shepard explains in a new video that she knows full well what “can happen as the result of hate”.

Matthew Shepard’s mother Judy has denounced the Republican presidential candidate in a new YouTube video.

Matthew was brutally and tragically murdered in 1998 by two homophobic men he met in a Wyoming bar.

His death and Judy’s tireless activism, as featured in the documentary Matt Shepard was a Friend of Mine, helped create the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which many LGBT people rely on on a daily basis.

“In the aftermath of Matt’s death, my family saw the best of America in the love and support we were shown,” Judy explains in the video.

“So when I see the hate that Donald Trump brings to his campaign for president, it terrifies me.

“Words have an influence. Violence causes pain. Hate can rip us apart. I know what can happen as the result of hate, and Donald Trump should never be our president.”

Watch the moving and exceedingly important video right here, and vote against hate in November.
