“LGBT kids don’t need to be ‘cured’ of anything” – Hillary Clinton says conversion therapy must be banned

The Democratic Presidential candidate says that it should be illegal to offer the ‘conversion therapy’ to under-18s.

In a tweet, Hillary said that “LGBT kids don’t need to be “cured” of anything.” She also says that “we should be supporting LGBT kids – not trying to change them.”

The practice – which claims to ‘turn’ people straight – is currently only banned in five US states – California, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington and Illinois. The first federal bill to ban the therapy was introduced to Congress in May 2015.

However, in the UK, there are currently no plans to ban the controversial therapy. Public Health Minister Jane Ellison said in November that “we don’t have a plan to introduce statutory regulation for psychotherapies.”

This is not the first time Hillary has spoken out about banning conversion therapy. In December, she announced it as one of her proposed policies. Other proposed LGBT policies include “ending discriminatory treatment of LGBT families in adoption” and “expanding the utilization of HIV prevention medication.”
