Caitlyn Jenner has labelled Trump’s administration the “worst ever” for trans rights.
The reality star and staunch Republican faced heavy criticism from the LGBTQ community after voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 election, despite warnings that he would halt or even reverse advances in equality.
In June of that year, she declared that Trump was “very much behind” LGBTQ rights in America, despite him already stating he would “strongly consider” appointing justices to overrule same-sex marriage.
Unsurprisingly, Trump has so far been abysmal on LGBTQ rights, having rescinded trans student’s bathroom protections, given freedom to discriminate against LGBT+ people, and announced a ban on trans individuals serving in the military.
But despite saying she doesn’t regret voting for Trump, and later making the questionable decision to wear a Make America Great Again hat, Caitlyn has now slammed the US president in an interview with Newsweek.
“As far as trans issues, this administration has been the worst ever,” she said at the Champions of Jewish Values International Awards Gala in New York City on 9 March.
“They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily. It’s going to be hard to change, but we’ve been through these types of things before and we’ll continue to fight it.”
While Caitlyn said she “has not” been able to speak with Trump, she added: “I did come back to the inauguration to meet people, and out of that I have built some very nice and good relationships with the Republican Party.”

And though it seems she’s finally dropped her allegiance with Trump, Caitlyn still hopes he will “do a better job” at ensuring equality.
“We’re all Americans,” she continued. “I think of it this way. We have diversity in mankind, humankind. We have diversity all over the place, diversity in the way people look, diversity in religion, diversity in skin colour.
“Wouldn’t it be a dull world if everybody was the same?”
Her comments echo a similar interview from October, where she confessed she was “disappointed” in Trump for his actions against the LGBTQ community, explaining: “I was hoping for a lot better than this.”
