Apple unveils gender-neutral emoji coming to iPhone

Is this Apple’s most queer update yet?

The tech giant has been steadily increasing its collection of emoji available to iPhone, iPad and Mac users over recent years, and over the weekend they announced hundreds of new icons are coming.

As well as wizards, vampires, mermaids and other mythical creatures, Apple will be introducing more clothes emoji such as scarves and gloves – just in time for the cold weather – and new food and animal options.

But in a break from the expected, Apple have announced that the new update will also feature two gender-neutral emoji for the first time – both in a variety of skin colours, of course.

As for those mythical creatures we mentioned before, there’ll also be a male fairy wearing a brown crop top, with mint green hair and matching wings in the update.

We have a feeling we’ll be using this one a lot…

The new emoji will roll out with the iOS 11.1 update for iPhone and iPad. While there’s no release date for that yet, you can probably expect it to arrive later this month.
