Tom Daley has slipped into his trunks to take his most extreme selfie yet with the new HTC U11 smartphone.
The Olympic diver used the new squeezy picture function while jumping off a diving board at the London Aquatics Centre to take what is believed to be the world’s first ever selfie during a reverse ‘gainer’ dive.
“I love taking a selfie, so when the challenge arose to try and take one, and capture myself mid dive, I obviously jumped at the chance,” said Tom.
“The HTC U11’s amazing ‘squeeze to selfie’ function made this possible, and might even be a world first!? It took a few attempts to perfect my dive, but after a few belly flops I got there.
“I have to say the final photos are easily some of my favourite diving shots ever.”
So how does this “squeeze to selfie” function work?
Well, all you have to do is give your phone a simple squeeze on the edges to launch the camera app and take a quick snap.
The HCT U11 achieved the highest ever DxOMark rating for both its photo and video capabilities – well as having an Auto HDR Boost feature – so Tom was able to take more balanced pictures with enhanced textures and colours.
Oh, it also has a waterproof rating of IP67, so Tom didn’t have to use a new phone for each attempt.
And that wasn’t enough, here are a whole load of shots of Tom’s attempts at taking the extreme selfie from all different angles. You’re welcome.
