Get ready to rock with Pride…
As we mark LGBT History Month this February, Matt Fishel has created a rock anthem laying out why remembering generations before us who fought for equality is so vital.
The storming queer rock-out – titled LGBTQIA (A New Generation) – includes the lyrics: “Raise a glass to the ones who came before and broke down the walls / Tip a cap to the past, to the ones who sacrificed and fought.”
Speaking about the track, Matt says: “This song is my heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of thousands who came before us; to the ones who paved the way and broke down the walls; to the generations who sacrificed and suffered through inequality and gross injustice, but who nonetheless challenged their systems and authorities and fought tirelessly to bring about the kinds of changes we’re seeing today, so that people like me could experience the
freedoms, happiness and, eventually, legal protections that so many of us now enjoy in our societies.
“This is for the ones who made it possible for folk like me to upload songs like this onto a global platform without fear of persecution or repercussion.
“Tragically, this is still not always the case and the fight continues in many parts of the world even now. So we must never take our equality for granted, especially whilst so many of our brothers and sisters around the world still experience so much prejudice and, in many cases, physical danger.
“Those of us who ARE able to live freely and authentically within our own societies – we must carry on doing whatever we can so that EVERYONE can enjoy these freedoms in the future. And we must never forget those who relentlessly gave everything (and still do) to make this ‘better world’ a reality for everyone.”
LGBTQIA (A New Generation) is available to stream and download now, and is included on Matt Fishel’s upcoming new album M/F.
It follows first single Bored Of Straight Boys, which premiered at the end of last year.
