Is a gay male version of Golden Girls on its way?

ABC

It looks like the answer is yes!

Golden Girls’ writer Stan Zimmerman confirmed in an interview with Party Foul Radio that he and James Berg are working on a “gay men’s Golden Girls”, which will be titled Silver Foxes.

The pair revealed they’d written a pilot, and last year recorded a table reading of the script with Star Trek’s George Takei, Will & Grace actor Leslie Jordan, Emmy-winner Bruce Vilanch, Parks and Recreation’s Todd Sherry, and SNL star Cheri Oteri.

Zimmerman joked: “It was a pretty classic afternoon in my house.”

Zimmerman also revealed they took inspiration from critically acclaimed documentary Before You Know It, which focused on the struggles of the elderly LGBT+ community, and how they’re often pushed back into the closet.

“Can you imagine? We thought that would be a great way to start the show,” he said.

“Every one of us is getting older. Especially with gays and lesbians and transgender, we create our own families – and that’s what The Golden Girls did. Those women came together and they supported each other.”

The pair have shipped the script and recording off to major networks like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this one gets picked up!
