Nicole Scherzinger is reportedly in talks to star as the iconic green witch in the movie adaptation of hit musical Wicked.

According to The Sun, The Pussycat Dolls singer and former X Factor judge would take the starring role of green-skinned witch Elphaba – a role made famous by Frozen star Idina Menzel originally on Broadway in 2003. Sadly, Idina will not return in her Tony Award-winning role for the movie.

Wicked features hit songs including Popular, For Good and Defying Gravity.

Nicole most recently made her West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats at the London Palladium in 2015. The role earned her an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.

A source said: “Nicole has held early discussions with film bosses who think she’s perfect for the role of Elphaba.

“She’s been eyeing a career in acting for some time now, so playing the lead role in a such a popular musical would be a major coup.”

The source adding: “There’s still some way to go before a final decision but she’s very much in the frame for the job.”

Last year, Universal Pictures confirmed that a movie adaptation of the musical  will hit the big screen on 20 December, 2019.

Stephen Daldry will direct the movie with Marc Platt producing — the pair are current producers on the internationally successful stage show. Stage writer Winnie Holzman and composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz are expected to reunite for the movie, also.

Based on the international best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
