Fans eager to hear new Shania Twain material will have to wait a little longer than expected.
The country music legend previously announced plans to released a brand new album in May this year – her first since 2002’s Up! – with the first single from the record due out in March.
Well, it’s now April, and that single is nowhere to be found. Fans were understandably disappointed and left wondering whether we’d ever get the album, but now a new release date has been set.
According to the Orange County Register, who interviewed the star about her comeback, the as-of-yet untitled album is due out in “the fall” – that’s autumn, to us Brits.
Shania also unveiled the names of two songs from the record – Life’s About To Get Good and I’m Alright – which she says are “both very celebratory and very happy”.
“They’re optimistic,” she explained of the new tracks. “I love the contrast in those songs and this album overall is honest and touches on a lot of candid phrases and wordings of things.
“But at the same time it still takes me to a place where I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and that’s actually where I’m at right now.”
The singer-songwriter has had a lot to write about during her time away from the spotlight, including her divorce and dysphonia, a vocal-cord disorder that caused her trouble speaking, let alone singing.
“It was tough at times,” she recalled. “Every single song was a nightmare because I was stressed about sharing it.
“It was a whole mix of feelings for me all the way around, but I’m so glad to be at the stage now where I’m ready to share it with the world. It’s a relief, actually.
“It was really scary, but it was also really therapeutic and I learned so much about myself and I thoroughly enjoyed it in the end because it ended up being an incredible experience.”
Shania also announced that she’ll debut a handful of the new tracks during her set at Stagecoach Country Music Festival on Saturday 29 April, stating that she’s “so excited” to perform there for the first time.
While we patiently wait for new music – what’s another few months after 15 years of twiddling our thumbs? – revisit one of her biggest hits, That Don’t Impress Me Much, below.
