Hollyoaks is about to get a brand new face – but he’ll be a familiar one for soap addicts.
Remember hunky Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt? What if we said he formed one half of the show’s first ever same-sex kiss with Todd Grimshaw way back in 2003? Oh, now you remember…
Adam played Gail Platt’s son Nick Tilsley on and off between 1997 and 2004, and the momentous scene in which he locked lips with Bruno Langley’s Todd pulled in 14 million viewers.
The actor will be hoping for similar success when he takes up an exciting new role in Hollyoaks from April, starring as Nancy’s ex-boyfriend Kyle.
He’ll run into his old flame at a support meeting, and his character, like Nancy, will be living with MS. Given Adam’s soap pedigree, we’d be surprised if passions didn’t flare between the two at some point, which promises all manner of troubles for Nancy and Darren’s much-loved relationship.
Adam said: “I am really happy to be joining Hollyoaks. I’ve had a lot of friends work on the show throughout the years and they’ve all told me what an amazing place it is to work, so it’s really good to be a part of such a welcoming crowd.
“The key interest for me was in the storylines lined up for Kyle, I think they are amazing, taking the character on a real journey and something I am really enjoying playing a part in. Fingers crossed the audience like the surprises as they keep coming.”
Perhaps a Weatherfield/Chester crossover in which Adam and Todd Grimshaw reunite? We can but dream.
