Exclusive: Will Stanley Tucci star in Elton John’s Devil Wears Prada musical?

20th Century Fox

When the news broke that a Devil Wears Prada musical was actually happening, we basically screamed for an hour.

But then we wondered, ‘What does the original cast think of such a move?’ After all, the movie is ICONIC, and nobody should touch the work of a masterpiece. Well, we found out from one of the stars themselves…

Speaking exclusively to Gay Times, Stanley Tucci — who starred as Nigel in the original movie — explained that Elton John’s new musical has his full support.

“I cannot sing, but I’m very excited that they’re making a musical out of that,” he laughs hysterically. Later adding: “I think it will be great.”

Before he’s even able to answer, co-star Audra McDonald is sure to add her weight to the argument on why Stanley should head to the bright lights of Broadway.

“And yes, he should do it,” she giggles. “I have already said that!”

Elton John will write the music for the stage adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.

The Grammy-winning artist will join forces with playwright Paul Rudnick, who will pen the book and lyrics, to retell the story of Andrea and her tyrannical fashion editor-from-hell Miranda Priestly.

Elton said: “Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting. I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world.

“I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”

The Devil Wears Prada started life as a best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, before being adapted into the Meryl Streep-starring 2006 movie smash that we all know and love to quote today.

Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions will produce the musical, although there’s no set date for it yet.

In a joints statement, Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions and McCollum said: “To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story.

“We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That’s all!”

Beauty and the Beast stars Emma Watson and Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast.
