Ariana Grande has hinted that she’ll be covering a Disney classic.
She posted a selfie in the recording studio last night, which is pretty standard fare for the hit maker, but it was who she tagged in it that really caught out attention – the movie’s official Instagram account, who later reposted the photo.
As well as teasing fans that she’ll have a part to play in the upcoming live-action Disney remake, Ariana also tagged smooth singer-songwriter John Legend in the photo, suggesting that the two will perform a duet.
In the original 1991 Beauty and the Beast movie, Céline Dion and Peabo Bryson joined forces to record the movie’s title track, which went on to become one of the studio’s most beloved and recognised songs.
Could Ariana and John be recording a surprise cover of the classic track?
It wouldn’t be the first time a major pop artist has performed a song for a Disney movie – Christina Aguilera lent her legendary vocals to Mulan’s Reflection in 1998, and Demi Lovato famously sang Frozen’s Let It Go in 2015.
Céline recently said that she “peed” with laughter when she saw Ariana’s near-perfect impersonation of her signature vocals, so if all else fails, she could always just use that party favour for the cover.
